Established in 1866, Cambridge began as a haven for primarily Swedish immigrants. From its incorporation through the early 1900s, commercial industries boomed here, with the addition of a variety of milling operations as well as an electric plant. Growth remained slow, but constant throughout the 1900s, reaching approximately 5,500 by 2000.
